About Us

Experience Kerala’s traditional charm with luxurious comforts at Kumarakom Tharavadu. Traditionally styled and luxuriously comfortable, the 150-year-old Kumarakom Tharavadu mansion is located in the picturesque town of Kumarakom, set on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, amidst soothing backwaters and green paddy fields.

The history of Kumarakom Tharavadu dates back to AD 1870 when M.C Chandy built his dream home at the age of 16 for the Maliackal family, on the banks of the backwaters. It’s location was ideal for transport and trade of the farm produce to be brought to the granary and from there to move it to the markets. With its grandeur and architecture, the Maliackal family home was later, popularly known as the “Kumarakom Tharavadu”.

This mansion is a testament to Kerala’s legendary architectural style featuring a harmonious blend of elements. Kumarakom Tharavadu has 8 luxurious guest rooms with an in-house restaurant that serves authentic Kerala food. The property also has its own private boat jetty from where you can sail into the backwaters.

ACCOMODATION

Accommodation at the Kumarakom Tharavadu is a distinctive Kerala heritage experience and one that you will fondly recall for its uniqueness. Live in a 150-year-old mansion painstakingly restored to create an exceptional holiday experience for you. We have a total of 8 rooms in three different categories – the Heritage Bungalow, the Heritage Annexe and the Heritage Quadruple. There is one room for the differently abled in the Heritage Annex category.

Live in the main bungalow that has been painstakingly restored for our guests. All four rooms have wooden ceilings, traditional furniture with a private balcony in the back and a Varandha in the front.
As the name suggests this was later on added to the main building by Late Mr.M.C.Chandy’s children. We also have one room for the differently abled in this category.
This is the biggest room in the property. It has two double beds and is ideal for a family of 4 or 5

Craving some authentic Kerala flavours? Oottupura, our in-house dining hall serves the most authentic Kerala food including the famous Pearl Spot fish also known as the ‘Kumarokom Karimeen’. Choose from a variety of delectable offerings for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner and get initiated into the wonders of this distinct culinary tradition made with care as you would at home.
Breakfast will be served from 7.30 AM to 10 AM, lunch from 12.30 PM to 2 PM and dinner from 7 PM to 10 PM.
